Privacy Policy of Quran Map

Quran Map is a free Quran recitation, reading, and bookmarking website. This Application collects only a limited, minimal set of Data from its Users, as described below.

This document can be printed for reference by using the print command in the settings of any browser.

Policy summary

  • Quran Map does not require account registration and does not run any advertising, analytics, or marketing-automation services.
  • Bookmarks and playlists you create are stored only in your browser's local storage, on your own device — they are never transmitted to or stored on our servers.
  • A single functional cookie is used to remember your sidebar display preference.
  • If you voluntarily submit the Contact form, the information you provide (name, reason, message) is used solely to respond to your inquiry.
  • Standard, anonymized Usage Data (such as IP address and browser type) is recorded in server access logs for security and operational purposes, as is standard for any website.
  • Quran recitation audio and Quran text are served from third-party Islamic content providers (IslamiCloud, AlQuran Cloud, Quran.com), which are not provided with any of your Personal Data.

Types of Data collected

Among the types of Data that this Application collects, by itself or through third parties, there are:

  • **Local Browser Storage**: bookmarked ayahs, bookmarked surahs, and custom playlists you create. This Data is stored exclusively in your browser (`localStorage`) and is never sent to or stored on Quran Map's servers.
  • **Functional Cookies**: a single cookie (`sidebar_state`) that remembers whether the navigation sidebar is expanded or collapsed. It does not identify you and is not used for tracking or advertising.
  • **Usage Data**: standard technical information generated automatically by your use of the Application (see the "Usage Data" definition below), recorded in server access logs.
  • **Contact form Data**: name, reason for contact, and message, only if and when you choose to submit the Contact form.

Quran Map does **not** collect account credentials, payment information, precise location, or advertising identifiers, and does not use any advertising, analytics, authentication, or marketing-automation third-party services.

Complete details on each type of Data collected are provided in the dedicated sections of this privacy policy. Data is either freely provided by the User (Contact form) or collected automatically as part of normal website operation (Usage Data, Cookies), or stored locally by the User's own browser (bookmarks and playlists). Failure to provide Contact form Data only prevents Quran Map from responding to that specific inquiry and has no effect on the availability of the rest of the Service.

Mode and place of processing the Data

Methods of processing

The Owner takes appropriate security measures to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or unauthorized destruction of the Data. Local Browser Storage data (bookmarks, playlists) is processed entirely on the User's device and is never transmitted to the Owner. Usage Data and Contact form Data, where applicable, are processed using standard hosting infrastructure operated by the Owner or its hosting provider.

Legal basis of processing

The Owner may process Data relating to Users if one of the following applies:

  • Users have given their consent for a specific purpose (e.g., by voluntarily submitting the Contact form);
  • processing is necessary for the performance of the Service requested by the User (e.g., remembering the sidebar display preference);
  • processing is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which the Owner is subject;
  • processing is necessary for the purposes of the legitimate interests pursued by the Owner, such as maintaining the security and proper functioning of the Application.

Place

The Data is processed at the Owner's operating offices in Turkey and at the facilities of its hosting provider. Depending on the User's location, data transfers may involve transferring Usage Data to a country other than the User's own; where this occurs, the Owner ensures appropriate safeguards consistent with applicable data protection law.

Retention time

  • Local Browser Storage data (bookmarks, playlists) is retained on the User's device until the User deletes it, clears their browser storage, or removes it directly within the Application.
  • The functional cookie is retained for up to 7 days or until cleared by the User via browser settings.
  • Contact form Data is retained only for as long as necessary to address the User's inquiry.
  • Server access logs (Usage Data) are retained for a limited period for security and operational purposes and are then deleted or anonymized.

The purposes of processing

The Data concerning the User is collected solely to: operate and maintain the Application (remembering display preferences, serving bookmarked/playlisted content from the User's own device), respond to Contact form inquiries, and ensure the security and proper functioning of the Service. Quran Map does not process Data for advertising, profiling, or marketing purposes.

Third-party content services used by this Application

Quran Map displays Quran text and reciter audio sourced from the following third-party Islamic content platforms. These services are used solely to retrieve public Quran content (surah text, translations, and recitation audio) on the Owner's server; no Personal Data about the User is shared with them.

  • **IslamiCloud** — reciter and surah metadata, and recitation audio.
  • **AlQuran Cloud** — Quran text and translations.
  • **Quran.com** — phonetic transliteration data.

The rights of Users

Users may exercise certain rights regarding their Data processed by the Owner.

In particular, Users have the right to do the following:

  • Withdraw their consent at any time, where processing is based on consent (e.g., a submitted Contact form).
  • Access their Data. Users have the right to learn if Data is being processed by the Owner and obtain disclosure regarding certain aspects of the processing.
  • Verify and seek rectification of their Data.
  • Have their Personal Data deleted or otherwise removed, where applicable. Note that bookmarks and playlists are already fully within the User's control and can be cleared at any time through their own browser.
  • Lodge a complaint with their competent data protection authority.

How to exercise these rights

Any requests to exercise User rights can be directed to the Owner through the contact details provided in this document. These requests can be exercised free of charge and will be addressed by the Owner as early as possible and always within one month.

Additional information about Data collection and processing

Legal action

The User's Data may be used for legal purposes by the Owner in Court or in the stages leading to possible legal action arising from improper use of this Application or the related Services. The User declares to be aware that the Owner may be required to reveal such Data upon request of public authorities.

System logs and maintenance

For operation and maintenance purposes, this Application may collect files that record interaction with this Application (system logs), which may include Usage Data such as the IP Address.

How "Do Not Track" requests are handled

This Application does not use any tracking or advertising technologies, so there is nothing to opt out of; "Do Not Track" browser signals have no effect on the Application's operation.

Changes to this privacy policy

The Owner reserves the right to make changes to this privacy policy at any time by notifying its Users on this page. It is strongly recommended to check this page often, referring to the date of the last modification listed at the bottom.

Definitions and legal references

Personal Data (or Data)

Any information that directly, indirectly, or in connection with other information allows for the identification or identifiability of a natural person.

Usage Data

Information collected automatically through this Application, which can include: the IP addresses or domain names of the computers utilized by the Users who use this Application, the time of the request, the method utilized to submit the request to the server, the numerical code indicating the status of the server's answer, the country of origin, the features of the browser and the operating system utilized by the User, and other parameters about the User's device and IT environment.

User

The individual using this Application who, unless otherwise specified, coincides with the Data Subject.

Data Subject

The natural person to whom the Personal Data refers.

Data Controller (or Owner)

The natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body which, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of the processing of Personal Data. The Data Controller, unless otherwise specified, is ATK Yazılım A.Ş., the Owner of this Application.

Quran Map, the means by which the Data of the User is collected and processed.

Service

The service provided by this Application as described in the Terms and Conditions and on this site.

Cookies

Small sets of data stored in the User's device.

This privacy statement has been prepared based on provisions of multiple legislations, including Art. 13/14 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation) and the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK).
